This is more-or-less a base camp trip since we’ll take two days going in and then spend two days exploring before returning via the entry route.

***SAT 8/2
Drive to Mono Lake Visitors’ Center – get permit. Drive to Mosquito, Trailhead BBQ, hike-in 1/2 mile (20 minute) to 1st legal campsite, camp.

***SUN 8/3
Hike to Trail Lake just over/west of Mono Pass, camp

***MON 8/4
Hike to Pioneer Basin – north shore of 3rd Lake (beach!), basecamp

***TUES 8/5
dayhike to higher lakes and small point above Stanford Col (class 1-2)

***WED 8/6
hike to 4th Recess Lake, camp

***THU 8/7
hike back out via Mono Pass to Mosquito Flat, dinner at Tioga Pass Resort (new classy chef prepared menu – yum!), drive home.

that’s 6 days/5 nights out.
