Oops! Wait Until Next Year

Filed under: Imported from — gdanmitchell @ 3:13 pm

Well, given a weather forecast that includes a chance of snow and winds of between 60 mph and 100 mph, we have either a) chickened out, or b) shown great judgment – and called off the mid-October pack trip to the 20 Lakes area.

“UPPER TROF MOVING IN TONIGHT WILL BE ACCOMPANED BY STRONG GUSTY WINDS THIS EVENING AND RIDGE TOP GUSTS OF 100MPH AFTER MIDNIGHT….. WX TURNING MUCH COOLER SATURDAY WITH A COUPLE OF INCHES OF SNOW OVER THE CREST AND A DUSTING POSSIBLE IN [Mammoth] BY SATURDAY EVENING.”

Fletcher Lake Trip Update

Filed under: Imported from — gdanmitchell @ 8:28 am

The Fletcher Lake 2005 information has been slightly updated. There is some question about whether we can park cars along Tioga Road on the night of October 15. We’re trying to find out what the official policy is on this.

We have a backup plan in case this turns out to be a problem. Follow the link to find out more.

Fletcher Lake 2005

Filed under: Imported from — gdanmitchell @ 10:21 pm

Our traditional end-of-season trip is a weekender to Fletcher Lake out of Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite. The Fletcher Lake 2005 trip is a “go” and updated info has been posted.

Some of us think that mid-October is the most beautiful time of year in the Sierra. It can be warm with golden light on trees and plants turning fall colors. There are no mosquitos and few tourists!

On the other hand, it can snow…
