700am – SD people depart SD, lunch enroute (7 hour drive to Bishop + lunch)
- ***Tue Aug 8 -
Drive to trailhead parking, hike via North Fork trail to Big Pine Lake #2, camp - ***Wed Aug 9 -
continue on to Big Pine Lake #4, basecamp on northshore bluffs - ***Thu Aug 10 -
Explore (Palisade Glacier) - ***Fri Aug 11 -
Explore (Big Pine Lakes #5, 6, 7, Sierra Crest above) - ***Sat Aug 12 -
Hike out, drive to Mammoth, dinner (Roberto’s), motel (Quality Inn w/large Jacuzzi) - ***Sun Aug 13 -
Drive home
“Refill your gas tank before you get to Von’s so we can all leave together.” Ryan Bellshaw, July 2005730am - SF people depart Owen’s house (6 hour drive to Bishop + lunch at Tioga Pass Resort), $20 per car fee through Yosemite.
215pm - Sarah depart Mammoth (~15 minute drive to US395, 30 minute drive on US395 south to Bishop)
300pm – everyone rendesvous at White Mtn. Ranger Dist. Bishop (Mapquest: Place: White Mountain Ranger District, State: CA)
pick up permit, rent 1 bear canister
pickup breakfast from Schat’s Bakkery Bishop
pick up BBQ supplies from Von’s Bishop (breakfast too if Schat’s is sold out)
- Owen is bringing an ice chest.500pm – arrive Big Pine Creek Campground (reservations for sites 9, 10 and 11, Mapquest: City: Glacier Lodge, State: CA), Trailhead BBQ!
With the exception of the pre- and post-trip activities, this year’s trip departs from our recent pattern of doing a week or longer thru hike over rough terrain. We’ll actually be staying in one place for a few days this time – lots of opportunities for exploration, photography, and various sorts of laziness.

Big Pine Lakes Basecamp
BIG PINE LAKES BASECAMP – August 7-13, 2006 – permit _obtained_ for 15 (maximum group size)
Mon Aug 7 drive to Bishop, pick up supplies at Von’s and Schat’s Bakery, continue to Big Pine, then west up tothe Glacier Lodge area, carcamp, trailhead BBQ
Tue Aug 8 drive to trailhead parking, hike to North Fork trail to Big Pine Lake #2 or 3, camp
Wed Aug 9 hike to Big Pine Lake #4 or 5, basecamp
Thu Aug 10 explore (Palisade Glacier)
